Basilika St. Kastor, Koblenz

With roots that go back to the beginning of the 9th century, the Basilica of St. Castor is the oldest church in Koblenz. The prominent Carolingian foundation of St. Castor played a very influential role in the history. It was here that the foundations were laid for the division of the Carolingian Empire into an Eastern and a Western realm from which the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and France were later to evolve.
