Kurfürstlich Burg, Boppard

Kurtrierische Burg in Boppard
Kurtrierische Burg, Boppard

Boppard’s Electoral castle, one of the most massively built pieces of defence architecture on the Middle Rhine, was constructed at the end of the 13th century as a stronghold and fortress. It houses the town’s museum which is devoted particularly to the development of the world-famous Thonet bentwood chairs. Boppard is the birthplace of Thonet, the inventor of these graceful coffee-house chairs.
