Festung Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz
Festung Ehrenbreitstein, Koblenz

In an exposed location 118 metres above the Rhine stands one of the strongest post-1815 fortresses in Europe: Ehrenbreitstein. The fortress houses the state collection of antique technology, the State Museum, a youth hostel and restaurants and is one of the sites of the BUGA Bundesgartenschau 2011 (The Federal Garden Show). The fortress plateau can be reached from the opposite bank of the river via the new aerial cable car which was built especially for the BUGA. There are spectacular views of the city, Deutsches Eck (German Corner), the Rhine and the mouth of the Moselle.
