At the heart of the World Heritage Valley: the Loreley Visitor Centre and open air venue

High up upon the legendary Loreley Rock is the central port ofcall for all visitors to the Middle Rhine Valley – the Loreley VisitorCentre.Located right next to the well-known open-air venue, this is the true heart of the World Heritage region.

At the centre of the World Heritage valley at Rhine kilometre 555 is the world-famous Loreley Rock. Serenaded by countless poets and photographed by millions of tourists, this striking rocky outcrop is one of the “not to be missed” attractions on the Middle Rhine. And surely everyone must have heard of Heinrich Heine’s song that starts with the line: Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten (“I cannot divine what it meaneth”) and tells the tale of a blond but fateful maiden who once sat upon the rock and bewitched the sailors in their boats below. And where else to create the main visitor centre for the Middle Rhine Valley but up there on the famous rock? The Loreley Visitor Centre was built in the year 2000 and now attracts visitors, tourists and guests from all over the world. Here you will find a shop with a comprehensive range of visitor merchandise and here, too, are the offices of the central tourist administration

and the Rheinsteig hiking trail. You can also watch a fascinating 3-D film about

the uniquely beautiful natural and cultural landscape of the Upper Middle

Rhine Valley. In the specially created Mythology Room the ‘Journey through Time’ interactive table takes visitors on a three-dimensional journey through

history. Watch as the history, the legends, the myths, the plant and animal

life and the world of the first Rhine tourists all come to life before your eyes. A spacious café/restaurant with barrier-free access rounds off the visitor centre’s range of services. With its ample parking facilities, it makes the ideal starting or finishing point for your visit to the Loreley Rock site and offers spectacular views of the Rhine Valley and the famous Loreley open-air stage.
