The Rheinsteig

The undisputed star in the hikers’ paradise on the Romantic Rhine. The Rheinsteig hiking trail which was opened in 2005, has rapidly gained cult status amongst

hikers who are irresistibly drawn back time and time again. It runs for a total of 320 kilometres from Wiesbaden across the Rheingau and through the whole valley of the Middle Rhine as far as Bonn and the Siebengebirge hills in the north.

The most spectacular sections lead the hiker up hill and down dale between
earth and sky. Enchanting panoramic postcard views of the rocky, winding valley of the Rhine coupled with romantic castles and appealing townscapes. This is without doubt a challenging trail and is justly termed a Steig or ‘steep track’.
Experts voted it Germany’s most beautiful long-distance hiking trail in 2006 and it has long been one of the most popular “Top Trails”. Whether you tackle the Rheinsteig in short stages or longer ones, in small groups or in larger ones, you’ll
soon find yourself bewitched by the beauty of the natural and cultural landscape. Tourist Information offices, hotels and lodgings offer a host of individually tailored Rheinsteig specials and packages.
