Each year between May and September the fireworks spectacular known as “Rhein in Flammen®” is staged along the most beautiful stretches of the Rhine. The riverside promenades and monuments between Rüdesheim and Bonn are bathed in the magical red glow of Bengal lights. A flotilla of illuminated riverboats sails along the river whilst an awe-inspiring explosion of colour lights up the night sky. A romantic, unforgettable experience for the whole family.

‘Rhein in Flammen’ is the name of the major fireworks events that take place each year at different times and along different stretches of the Middle Rhine. On each of the five different evenings, fleets of brightly illuminated passenger boats sail along the river giving their passengers the opportunity to see each stage of the fireworks which are set off as the boats arrive. At the ‘Rhein in Flammen’ events in St. Goar and St. Goarshausen the flotilla remains static, riding at anchor between the castles Maus and Rheinfels. Wine festivals and other local events take place along the river banks attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The largest of the ‘Rhein in Flammen’ extravaganzas takes place each year in Koblenz on the second Saturday in August.
